One of my favourite night markets in Cape Town is the Constantia Waldorf Organic Night Market, a festive and eco-conscious market held every last Friday of the month during summer (excluding school holidays). There’s always a great atmosphere and delicious hand-made organic food of all sorts and shapes – I’ve always found it a wonderfully laid back way to spend a Friday evening.
In addition to the monthly summer market, though, the Constantia Waldorf School also throws a bigger bash once a year. The Constantia Waldorf Fair is similar to the market in theme, but is much larger, with many more stalls and activities, and starts a lot earlier (midday).
As far as entertainment goes, there’s usually a good lineup of performers, as well as fun interactive workshops for anyone who wants to learn some new skills (like drumming) and get hands-on. There will be loads of fabulous fresh foods and stuff to take home, a variety of holistic therapies (massage, mmm…) to enjoy and a range of crafts and products to browse.
The fair will be held this coming Saturday (24 March 2012) from midday until 8pm. Tickets cost R30 per adult, R15 per scholar / child and parking on the premises costs R20.
There’s so much on this weekend, it’ll be hard to choose, but I think a visit to the fair is definitely on the cards for me!
