Last year the Swartland Wine and Olive Route Country Market was held for the first time at Kirstenbosch Stone Cottages. The idea behind the event was to introduce Capetonians to the best the region has to offer, with the hope of enticing them to come and visit some time soon.
I went along and thought it was great fun, and had a fantastic time meeting producers and sampling various wines and olive products.
Happily, the festival must have been a success, because they’re back for another showing this year, with more than 60 stalls presenting the produce of the Swartland.
“Enjoy the robust tastes of this celebrated route when more than 60 stalls present the produce of this unique region. Meet the winemakers and savour the wines, taste the breads, olives and preserves and gear up for a country day in town.
A tasty and leisurely day is in store with activities for the whole family. What can be poured, plated or produced is on sale so join us as we discover this unspoilt area which offers lots of suprises and a rich selection of food and wine.”
The festival takes place on Saturday 6 October 2012, running from 10am until 4pm. I’ll definitely be there!
