For the past 11 years, the Table of Peace & Unity has invited people from all walks of life to gather around one (very long) table to break bread together and help raise funds for childrens’ charities (over R9-million raised to date!). It’s an event that cuts across all boundaries of race, religion or political beliefs, symbolised of course by the communal table, around which over 700 people will be gathered.
This year, the Table of Peace and Unity luncheon will be held on Mother’s Day, Sunday 8 May 2011, located, as usual, on the iconic slopes of Table Mountain (unique to this event). On the cards, a delicious three-course lunch prepared by Cape Town’s top chefs (and paired with Lazanou wines) as well as world class entertainment including The Parlotones and Danny K (there’s also a special children’s menu and entertainment this year for anyone wanting to take the whole family).
Just to tempt you further, here’s a peek at the menu:
Starter (Peter Tempelhoff of The Cellars-Hohenhort)
- Mosaic of free range chicken and wild mushroom wrapped in Parma Ham
- Spiced Pear Chutney, Hazelnut and Truffle dressing
Main course (Roberto De-Carvalho of One &Only and Morne Botha – Blues)
- Braised beef with cauliflower puree
- Warm Lentil and bean salad, Potato spinach dauphinoise
Dessert (Granger Bay Hotel School)
- Duo of lemon cheesecake and chocolate mousse
- Orange reduction and strawberry caviar
Yum, I’ll be going this year, and I’m really looking forward to it!
