Well, unbelievably, a month has already been and gone since the last Constantia Living Country Craft Market, and the next one is coming up this weekend.
As may be obvious, I am a big fan of this particular market, so I will most definitely be stopping in once again to stock up on even more Christmas (and other) gifts. Why buy gifts at supermarkets and chain stores, say I, when you can find beautiful, original, hand-crafted wares and support innovative crafters instead?
Plus, there’ll be plenty of foodstalls, so lunch is sorted.
Something I didn’t know about the market:
Every month we give a concessionary (free) stand to an initiative or group that is trying to create jobs, uplift the community, or foster creative talent in some way.
Last month they gave the space to Zizamele ceramics who displayed ‘beautiful ceramic bowls’ and this month a volunteer from Europe will be testing the ‘viability of a hot dog stand as a income generating project for Monwabisi Home Based Care’.
But wait, that’s not all, folks, for the Rondebosch Potters’ Market is also on this coming Saturday (and I shall be attending both). The Potters’ Market gives you the opportunity to get your paws on pots (and other ceramics) directly from Cape potters – pros and amateurs alike – and there are (I hear) some great deals to be had.
I’ve never been (shock, shock, horror, horror!), but plan to remedy this terrible breach by arriving promptly as it opens on Saturday morning (apparently, things sell out rather quickly so it’s best to be there early if you want to get the good stuff).
The Potters Market only happens twice a year, so if, like me, you’re looking for some fun gifts, it’s worth stopping in to see what’s potting (ahem, so to speak).
