Good news for all folks living near Kalk Bay and the rest of the southern peninsula – there’s a new market about to set up in your neck of the woods:
I wanted to give you a heads up about the ‘Fresh etc Market’ mini-food, organic and fresh goods market that we’re starting in Kalk Bay at the end of October.
This funky, intimate new market will complement the Holistic Fair in Obs, which will be seeing some revamps in the coming months as well.
The market will be happening at the Kalk Bay Community Centre, just before Dalebrook, Main Road, Kalk Bay from 10-3pm on Sunday October 19, then again on Sunday 16 November and Sunday 14 December. This trial period will hopefully lead to a regular market on the 3rd Sunday of every month, and possible more frequently if all goes well.
There’s only space for about 20-25 stalls in this beautiful circa-1906 community building overlooking the sea, but there’s lots of place for visitors to hang out on the centre’s balcony while they savour their food and look out for whales in the surf a few 100 metres away, or for them to chill in the small back garden!
The only issue that we’re hoping won’t be too big of a problem is the traffic and parking…. but fingers crossed my parking attendants will do a sterling job!
More info to follow shortly.
Kalk Bay in summer does get pretty crowded, so parking might be a bit of a ‘mare, but that’s not going to stop me having a look.
Whales and market – that’s quite a combination! It sounds pretty good to me, all in all, and if the stalls are well chosen, could well be a recipe for success. Plus, the fact that it’s on a Sunday rather appeals to me (so many other markets competing for Saturday space).
I’ll post more about times and so on once I know what’s potting.
