So, it looks like a beautiful sunny weekend ahead, if a little on the chilly side.  As always, there’s plenty to choose from, as far as fun activities go, and these are my picks from the Mother City Living events calendar.

Stellenbosch Fresh Goods Market: Christmas in July

Saturday 25 July ’09.  10am-2pm. Stellenbosch Fresh Goods Market, Dorp Street Square, Bosman’s Crossing, Stellenbosch Tel: 072 922 9311. (event info)

The Stellenbosch Fresh Goods Market goes all out when it comes to their specially themed days… I went to a strawberry-themed event back in strawberry season, and it was impressive how creative stallholders got.  Strawberry sausages, pesto, vinegars – what fun!

So, a wintry Christmas theme should be great entertainment, I’m certain.  Oh, and the market has new hours, running from 10am to 2pm, rain or shine.

Saturday 25 July ’09.  8.30am – 1pm. Nitida Estate, Durbanville Wine Valley.  Contact Getha Havenga 021 976 1467. (event info)

Another awesome foodie market, held monthly and showcasing forty stalls of fresh home-made food including hot soup to warm you up.

The market is held at the lovely Nitida Estate, in the Durbanville Wine Valley, less than half an hour out of Cape Town (assuming there’s no traffic).

Vyge Valley Farmers Market

Saturday 25 July ’09.  9am-2pm.  Vyge Valley Farm Stall. For more information call 022 492 2586.  (event info)

Starting tomorrow, the Vyge Valley Farm Stall, on the R27 road (along the Cape West Coast) will be hosting a fresh produce market with some delicious-sounding treats in store for passers-by… gourmet mushrooms, home-made preserves and cheeses and just-baked farm bread, to name a few.  After that, the market will be held every last Saturday of the month.
