Well, I’m guessing the wild and wintry weather will be playing its part in keeping most people indoors this weekend, but if you’re getting a touch of cabin fever, here are a few things you could get up to:

Cape Homemakers’ Expo.

28-31 August.  10am-9pm (Sunday until 6pm).  CTICC.

Cape Homemakers Expo 2008It’s on at the CTICC until 6pm on Sunday, and is this year hosting a special new ‘Green Living’ area.  I stopped in today to have a look and was impressed at the green innovations in everything from indoor cooling systems, to plant-based paints.  Pretty cool indeed.  All companies in the ‘Green Living’ section specialise in interior and exterior home related, environmentally friendly products and services.  Tickets cost R45 for adults, R30 for pensioners and under 12s go in for free.

Franschhoek Uncorked

Franschhoek Uncorked Festival.

29-30 August.  La Motte, R45 Main Road, Franschhoek.

A celebration of the ‘Boland and the fruit of the vine’.  Festivities include wine-tasting, sorbet-tasting (!), food and wine-pairing and a concert by ‘formidable piano duo’ Zorada Temmingh and Elna van der Merwe (on two pianos, not one).  Admission to the concert (starts at 7pm): R110.00 per person.

Blue Route Mall ‘Green Expo’.

blueroutelogo_s.jpg29-30 August (9.30am – 4pm).  Blue Route Mall, Tokai.

Nitida Farmers’ Market.

30 August.  Nitida Wine Estate, Durbanville.   9am – 1.30pm

Monthly feast of fresh farmers’ produce at the Nitida Wine Estate in Durbanville.  They have everything from fresh-baked breads to free range eggs and organic seedlings.  Winter times 9am – 1.30pm.

Plus, if you haven’t stocked up on your organic goodies, you can always head to one of the various organic markets happening around town.

Have a great weekend!
