Kalk Bay is well known for its working harbour and fish market, and every year a feast of things fishy is celebrated at the Holy Trinity Church on the main road.
The Kalk Bay Fish Fare is held to raise funds for the church – a small entrance fee is charged at the door. It’s fun and festive, and there’s a wide variety of fish and seafood on offer from tented stalls on the grounds. Families often grab some food and have picnics in the church graveyard – a slightly strange but fun sight.
What with the roadworks still on the go in Kalk Bay at the moment, I’d suggest either taking the train in or getting there very early (the festival is always packed!).
