Every winter the Mount Nelson hosts a series of ‘Wine & Dine‘ events, showcasing and expertly pairing wines from some of our best winemakers with food created by the Planet Restaurant’s Chef Rudi Liebenberg.

bottle_lalunaAnd they’re kicking off the 2013 series in some style, I have to say… hosting a Biodynamic Dinner timed to coincide with tomorrow’s lunar eclipse:

On the eve of the lunar eclipse on the 25th April, Avondale Wine Estate and the Mount Nelson will be hosting an extraordinary seven-course dinner paired with wines at the historic hotel’s Planet Restaurant. Award-winning Executive Chef Rudi Liebenberg and Sommelier Carl Habel have teamed up with Johnathan Grieve, Proprietor of Avondale, to create a Biodynamic Dinner as part of the Mount Nelson Wine & Dine Dinner Series. Biodynamic farming is largely influenced by the lunar cycles and thus the eclipse of the full moon on the eve of the dinner holds special significance. Seven superb courses will be paired with Avondale’s exquisite handcrafted wines, produced according to the BioLOGIC® methodology. Guests will discover how Avondale uniquely uses the best of modern science, organic and biodynamic practises to create a living system that is perfectly attuned to the rhythms of the cosmos.

I love that they got this timing so right – the moon being so closely linked with biodynamic farming…  At this late stage, I have no idea whether there are places still available for the first dinner – but it sounds so extraordinary and magical and I wish I could be there .  The dinner starts at 7pm and costs R460 per person.
