So swiftly the weeks fly by! Well, it’s supposed to be spring, but of course Mother Nature is having a bit of a laugh at the moment, taunting us with the odd warm day, then plunging us into rain, hail and snow. Fun.
Well, whatever the weather, there’s still plenty to do this weekend – and here are my top picks this time around:
This brand new market makes its debut tomorrow and promises to provide fresh produce and home-made crafts, as well as a host of activities, including drumming, yoga classes, massage therapy and more.
The venue allows for both indoor and outdoor activities (obviously the former is weather-dependent) and there’s plenty of parking.
19-21 September. Darling (75km outside Cape Town)
Held annually since 1917! “A hall will be landscaped with Darling wildflowers, from the most fragile and rare to the ones easily found.
Craft and fun stalls with goodies await you and there will also be a lecture hall with wine tastings, talks and displays of art.”
Entry fee R20. Visit www.darlingwildflowers.co.za for more info.
Mamre Flower Show.
19-21 September. Mamre (60km outside Cape Town, 10 mins from Darling)
The West Coast village of Mamre celebrates its 200th year with a Wildflower Show. Festivities include many handcraft stalls and food stalls with local dishes like smoorsnoek, koeksisters and more.
Other activities include taking horse and cart rides around the village or a visit to the beergarden. Being only 10 minutes from Darling, one could easily fit in both flower fests for good measure! For more info call Sophie on 021 576 1266.
I’m always looking for new events, so if you have one you’d like to share, please get in touch!
